Chartered financial planning firm Fidelius has acquired a non-controlling stake in Vobis, a company based in London and Leeds. This move is part of Fidelius's strategic growth plan following an investment from the Swedish wealth manager Söderberg & Partners earlier this year.
The acquisition will help Fidelius enhance its presence in key regional markets, expand its national footprint, and add approximately £140m in assets and a high-net-worth client base to its group. Founded in 2013 and led by CEO Richard Stott, Vobis will continue to operate independently while focusing on strengthening its presence in central London and along the M62 corridor.
Fidelius manages around £2bn in assets and offers various services, including wealth management, mortgage advice, employee benefits, and corporate services. The investment in Vobis marks Fidelius's first deal since Söderberg acquired a minority equity stake in January 2024; however, a spokesperson for Fidelius confirmed that the Vobis deal was self-funded.
This acquisition aligns with a broader trend of strategic partnerships and targeted regional deals in the mid-market wealth sector, contrasting with full-scale consolidations. Fidelius has previously acquired Robson Taylor IFA in Bath and launched ‘Evolve,’ a streamlined service aimed at clients with simpler advice needs.
Ian Fowler, CEO of Fidelius, emphasised the importance of Vobis's Leeds office as a foundation for expanding national coverage, particularly along the M62 corridor, as Fidelius aims to double its AUM by 2029, aiming to enter the top 20 UK IFAs by size.
This development follows our recent coverage of Maseco’s internal expansion, Söderberg’s investment initiatives across multiple firms, and Corbel Partners’ internal buyout strategy, together illustrating the diverse approaches that advice businesses are taking to structure their growth.
