IFA EXIT AND SUCCESSION PLANNING

Sell your IFA firm and retire with confidence

Are you worried about who will look after your clients when you retire? With recent BADR changes, are you concerned that the longer you leave a sale, the more tax will eat into your proceeds?

Selling your financial planning firm with Chapters Capital ensures your clients go to a great home and you get the right price for your business.

WHY RETIRING IFAS CHOOSE CHAPTERS

Benefits of a full sale and exit

How it works

STEP 1

Contact us for a free, confidential call

Fill out our contact form for a no-obligation initial call with one of our team. Together we will walk through the shape and size of your business, your exit plans, and how much your business is worth. There is no pressure to immediately enter the sale process following this call, we will always be guided by you and your pace. We also do not charge you any fees or retainers.

STEP 2

Meet buyers and agree terms

Once we've got a feel for your firm we will introduce you to a small handful of qualified buyers. These meetings are for both you and the buyer to assess if you're the right fit. Following this you will receive offers from the acquirers. Once you accept an offer you will enter into Heads of Terms with your buyer of choice and due diligence can begin.

STEP 3

Due diligence and completion

Now you're in the weeds. Due diligence is usually split into financial, legal, and compliance DD. This stage will involve a lot of information gathering on the part of the buyer. We remain on hand to answer any of your questions and keep momentum up. Once DD is complete, you reach exchange and completion and the handovers of your clients begin!

Is a sale and full exit right for me?

"How do I know my clients won't be shoehorned onto the buyer's investment proposition?"

When we introduce you to buyers we take care to ensure that the services they provide align with how you already service your clients. That means integration will centre entirely around what is best for your clients, rather than disrupting their investments with unnecessary changes.

That being said, reassure yourself by doing your own due diligence on the buyer. Talk to advisers who have sold to them, meet the advisers taking over your clients, and fully understand what post-sale life looks like for you, your clients, and your team.

"I'm not ready to retire."

Timing is everything when it comes to selling your business. Ultimately, only you will know when you're ready to step back. However, retiring right away is not your only option.

Some advisers prefer to sell and stay on at the new firm, lifting the burden of dealing with regulatory compliance, and continuing to advise their clients for a couple more years.

Others are looking to take some money off the table now, with an assured future route to sale. Partnership programmes allow advisers to sell 10% - 30% of their business and continue to grow.

Business Professionals Talking

What our clients say

Read postcards from our past clients.

"Simon assisted us with sale of our financial advisory business. The business was valued at 8 figures. He was immensely patient - negotiations took several months as we owned several interlinked firms. He has a real eye for detail. Clarifying and answering hundreds of questions. Best of all he is a thoroughly decent and caring chap.

I would recommend Chapters Capital to any serious minded seller or buyer of IFA businesses."
