Deal summary

Atomos has entered exclusive negotiations to acquire Tavistock Group Holdings, the parent company of Tavistock Private Client (TPC), from Tavistock Investments.

Separately, Tavistock Investments has agreed to sell the business and assets of King Financial Planning (KFP) for £3m in cash. KFP recorded turnover of £682,000 in its latest financial year, putting the agreed consideration at approximately 4.4 times annual turnover.

About Atomos

Atomos is a UK financial planning and wealth management group offering financial advice, investment management and bespoke portfolio management.

Formerly Sanlam Wealth, the business is majority-owned by Oaktree Capital Management, with WTW holding a strategic minority stake acquired in October 2024.

Atomos has continued expanding its national financial planning operation through acquisitions, most recently agreeing to acquire MWA Financial, which oversees approximately £950m in assets under advice.

About Tavistock Private Client

Tavistock Private Client provides independent financial advice and investment management services, primarily to higher-net-worth individuals.

The business operates as an FCA-authorised subsidiary of Tavistock Group Holdings, which is currently owned by Tavistock Investments.

Tavistock's strategic refocus

Tavistock is repositioning its business around asset management and technology-enabled financial advice, with the aim of reducing the cost of delivering regulated advice to retail clients.

Its strategy brings together asset manager Alpha Beta Partners and fintech businesses Lifetime Financial Management and Plus Group. Tavistock intends to use technology and artificial intelligence to reduce administrative and compliance costs while retaining the role of financial advisers.

The planned disposals of Tavistock Private Client and King Financial Planning would support this change in direction.

What happens next?

Atomos has until 14 November 2026 to exchange contracts for Tavistock Group Holdings, unless the parties agree an extension.

The proposed acquisition remains subject to definitive transaction documents and FCA change-of-control approval for Tavistock Private Client. Tavistock has cautioned that completion is not guaranteed.
