Clifton Wealth snaps up Suffolk firm Morgan Law

Deal summary


Clifton Wealth Partnership has completed the acquisition of Morgan Law Financial Services, an Ipswich-based financial planning firm with around 500 clients and £138 million in assets under management.


The transaction takes the wider Clifton Group’s assets under management to £4 billion and extends its presence into Suffolk and the wider East Anglia region.


Morgan Law’s five employees will remain with the business and continue working from its existing Ipswich office. Director Simon Browne, who has worked at Morgan Law since 1993, will remain for a transitional period to support clients through the handover. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Clifton Wealth Partnership is a financial planning and wealth management business within the Bristol-based Clifton Group. Following the Morgan Law acquisition, the group has more than 15,000 clients, around 180 employees and £4 billion in assets under management.


Clifton Group has operated since 1986 and has invested in its own technology, investment and operational infrastructure. The group is backed by private equity firm CBPE Capital, whose investment was announced in October 2024 to support organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

Morgan Law Financial Services is an established financial planning firm serving clients across East Anglia and beyond from its office in Ipswich.


The firm has around 500 clients and £138 million in assets under management. Its team comprises two advisers, two qualified paraplanners and one administrator. Browne has been a director of the business since 1993, and Morgan Law has grown largely through personal recommendations and long-standing client relationships.


What happens next?


Morgan Law will rebrand as Clifton Wealth Partnership as part of the integration process.

The five-person team will remain in place and continue working from the existing Ipswich office. Browne will support the handover and help establish relationships between Morgan Law’s clients and the wider Clifton team during a transitional period.

Dukes IFA – May 2026

Clifton acquired Bushey-based Dukes IFA, adding approximately 170 client households and £43 million in assets under management. Director Adrian Duke-Cohan will remain involved during the transition before retiring. Chapters Capital advised Duke-Cohan on the transaction.


Cutting & Carter - April 2026

The acquisition of Maldon-based Cutting & Carter added approximately 500 clients and £60 million in assets under management. Directors Steve Carter and Gary Smith are expected to remain involved for up to two years as they move towards retirement.


Cairn Independent and JRW Financial Management - February 2026

Clifton acquired the two Scottish financial planning firms in separate transactions, adding close to £150 million in client assets, around 500 households and nine employees. Chapters Capital advised on both deals.
