Deal summary

London-based Vintage Wealth Management has acquired Financial Management Independent Financial Advice (FMIFA), a whole-of-market independent advice firm based in Buckinghamshire. The deal adds £400 million in assets under advice and takes the combined business to £2.14 billion in client assets.

About Vintage Wealth Management

Vintage Wealth Management is a London-based financial services group offering wealth management, asset management, employee benefits and private medical insurance broking. Founded in 2004 by Geoffrey Hartnell and Robert Stein, who remain executive directors, the firm is led by chief executive John Morton. In January 2024, Swedish wealth manager Söderberg & Partners acquired a minority stake in Vintage, describing the business at the time as a scalable platform with strong infrastructure and a fast-growing professional network.

About Financial Management Independent Financial Advice (FMIFA)

Financial Management Independent Financial Advice is a Buckinghamshire-based firm that has been operating for more than 30 years, founded by Philip Harper, its managing partner. The practice advises clients on retirement planning, wealth management, protection, corporate benefits and equity release.

Why is Vintage acquiring FMIFA?

The acquisition reflects two priorities that have shaped Vintage's development since the Söderberg minority investment: building the scale needed to invest meaningfully in technology, and growing through firms that share a commitment to independent, whole-of-market advice. At £2.14 billion in combined client assets, the enlarged group is better positioned to fund the technology infrastructure and AI integration both parties have indicated as a priority post-acquisition.

What happens next?

Vintage has confirmed the acquisition is complete. The firm has indicated that the combined business will invest in new IT infrastructure and AI to improve client service and operational efficiency.

Vintage Wealth Management's other acquisitions

  • Nexus Independent Financial Advisers and Nexus Investment Managers – March 2023

Vintage acquired both firms from administration, following FCA-imposed restrictions on the businesses. The transaction required FCA approval before completion, with the regulator liaising closely with potential purchasers throughout the process.

  • Statehouse Private Wealth – 2021

Vintage acquired Royal Wootton Bassett-based Statehouse Private Wealth for an undisclosed sum. At the time of the deal, Statehouse managed just under £100m in assets under advice and had a team of three advisers led by Nick Cowen.

  • Corfe Wealth Management – 2021

Vintage acquired Surrey-based Corfe Wealth Management for an undisclosed sum, extending its adviser network in the period ahead of the Söderberg minority stake investment in January 2024.
