Suttons IFA Acquires Whitewell Financial Planning in Regional Growth Initiative

Suttons Independent Financial Advisers has acquired Whitewell Financial Planning, a Bolton-based firm that manages nearly £40m in assets. The details of the deal have not been disclosed, but it marks Suttons’ third acquisition and aligns with the company's strategy to expand operations and enhance its client offerings.

 

Founded in 2008 by Phil O’Connor, Whitewell has established a strong reputation for advising professionals, senior medical practitioners, and business owners in the North West. O’Connor, who is accredited by Resolution for his work with clients undergoing divorce or separation, will remain closely involved after the acquisition and continue as the primary point of contact for Whitewell's clients.

 

All existing client arrangements will remain unchanged, with Suttons taking over administrative and operational duties behind the scenes. The goal is to ensure a seamless transition with no disruption for clients.

 

Suttons, established in 2006 by Harvey Sutton, currently manages £240m in assets and employs a team of 20 staff members. The firm is on track to achieve £3.3m in revenue this year and is actively seeking further acquisitions as part of a structured growth plan.

 

Ben Preston, Managing Director at Suttons, described the acquisition as a strategic fit, offering Whitewell’s clients access to a wider range of services, modern digital infrastructure, and a greater pool of expertise. He emphasised Phil O’Connor’s continued involvement is crucial for maintaining trust and continuity throughout the transition.

 

This acquisition serves as a strong example of effective succession planning, preserving client relationships while enhancing service capacity and operational support through a larger, future-ready platform.
