UK advice consolidator Shackleton has received a majority investment from US-based private equity firm Lee Equity Partners, marking a significant shift in ownership and strategy across the Atlantic. The deal, which is still pending regulatory approval, will see Lee Equity take over from previous backers Sovereign Capital Partners, who supported Shackleton during its rapid expansion phase.
Since Sovereign’s investment, Shackleton has completed 18 acquisitions throughout the UK, transforming from a regional South East firm, previously known as Skerritts Group, into a national wealth management platform. The rebranding to Shackleton in December last year signalled a strategic shift towards establishing “Britain’s financial adviser,” focusing on scaling operations, brand cohesion, and making financial planning accessible nationwide.
Paul Feeney, CEO of Shackleton, described the new investment as a milestone in the firm’s journey. “With Lee Equity’s backing, we have secured significant international investment not just for Shackleton, but also for our country,” he stated, adding that the firm’s goal of becoming the UK’s most trusted provider of affordable and fair financial advice is now one step closer.
Lee Equity brings extensive sector experience, having invested in companies such as Atria Wealth Solutions, Simplicity Group, and Edelman Financial in the US. Danny Rodriguez, a partner at Lee Equity, praised Shackleton’s momentum and platform potential, noting that the firm is “uniquely positioned to capitalise on growth opportunities in the UK market.”
This transaction represents not just a transfer of capital but also a strategic escalation in ambition, with international private equity backing fuelling a UK-based, tech-enabled, acquisition-driven platform poised to gain further market share.
