Scandinavian wealth management group Söderberg & Partners continues its expansion in the UK by acquiring minority stakes in three additional IFA firms: Cheetham Jackson, Blakes Financial Management, and Murphy Wealth. Together, these firms manage approximately £1.4bn in client assets, significantly enhancing Söderberg’s UK market presence.
This announcement follows a recent investment in County Durham-based Active Financial Planners, as reported by Citywire, demonstrating Söderberg’s strategic focus on partnering with established, client-centred firms throughout the UK.
Backed by private equity firms KKR and TA Associates, Söderberg has swiftly positioned itself as a key player in the UK financial planning sector, acquiring stakes in around 30 UK-based firms to date. Unlike many private equity-backed consolidators seeking majority ownership, Söderberg typically takes minority stakes, emphasising collaboration with entrepreneurial firms that wish to maintain their operational independence.
Cheetham Jackson, which has over £775m in assets under management, will retain its employee-owned structure while welcoming Söderberg as a strategic minority partner. Blakes Financial Management cited Söderberg’s commitment to technological innovation as a crucial factor in their decision, having previously turned down numerous offers from consolidators. Meanwhile, Scottish firm Murphy Wealth, managing £250m in assets, views Söderberg's investment as a strategic move to secure its long-term independence and enhance growth prospects.
These transactions highlight Söderberg’s unique approach in the consolidation landscape, prioritising partnerships, technology integration, and long-term strategic alignment over full ownership and control.
